Organizers

Karen Church, Telefonica Research
Karen is a researcher with Telefonica Research in Barcelona, Spain. She received her PhD in Computer Science entitled, "A Study of Mobile Internet Usage and Implications for Mobile Search Interfaces" from University College Dublin, Ireland. Karen's research interests include the mobile web and mobile search space, personalization and social applications in a mobile setting, HCI and user interfaces. Karen's current research focus is on social mobile search services.

Josep M. Pujol, Telefonica Research.
Josep is a researcher with Telefonica Research in Barcelona Spain. He was a fellow at the center for the study of complex systems at University of Michigan. He received his PhD in Computer Science with the thesis entitled, "Structure in Artificial Societies". He is interested in applying social processes to open decentralized systems such as the Web, P2P and Multi-Agent Systems. Josep's current research focus is on social search and recommendation, scalability of social based systems and social content distribution.

Barry Smyth, University College Dublin
Barry holds the Digital Chair of Computer Science in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at University College Dublin. He has a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and his research interests include personalization, recommender systems, case-based reasoning, machine learning, and information retrieval. Barry is a co-founder of ChangingWorlds Ltd., a leading provider of mobile content discovery solutions, recently acquired by Amdocs Inc. Barry is currently the Director of the CLARITY Centre for Sensor Web Technologies.

Noshir Contractor, Northwestern University.
Noshir is the Jane S. & William J. White Professor of Behavioral Sciences in the School of Engineering, School of Communication and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is the Director of the Science of Networks in Communities (SONIC) Research Group at Northwestern University. He is investigating factors that lead to the formation, maintenance, and dissolution of dynamically linked social and knowledge networks in communities.
